TechNExt is back for another year, and this time it’s bigger than ever, with a week of inspiring and insightful events, including brand new Tech Hubs and the ever-popular Schools Challenge, which will this year be hosted in South Shields.
Schools from across South Tyneside are invited to get involved in the challenge to help spark the imagination of the region’s children, give them an insight into the thriving tech scene and inspire the next generation of digital entrepreneurs and experts.
The challenge is a great opportunity for school children from South Tyneside to explore how technology can be used to overcome real world problems and explore themes such as online safety, gaming, mental health and wellbeing, climate change and AI.
Children aged between 9 and 13 (year groups 5 to 8) are encouraged to come together as a class or small group and work alongside industry experts to develop an innovative tech-based solution that solves a real-life issue.
After its success in 2024, the challenge this year aims to educate students about the varied careers available in the sector, introduce young people to tech employers in the region and showcase education and progression opportunities that are becoming increasingly popular amongst young people as the tech industry in the North East continues to grow.
This year’s celebration event will be held at The Customs House in South Shields, on 20 June 2025, and will see a number of the participating students come together to celebrate and showcase their work, alongside industry professionals. The challenge is just one part of a week-long programme of events being hosted across the region, from 16 to 20 June, to celebrate the thriving North East technology sector.
The Schools Challenge launches on 3 March 2025 – What are you waiting for? If you’re a school in South Tyneside express your interest in participating in the challenge now!
