Team Programme Presentation

Investing in Future Talent: How Your Business Can Make a Difference

Five young people who have successfully completed the Kings Trust TEAM Programme shared their experiences at an event at South Shields Fire Station last month. Each spoke about the how the 12-week programme had helped them build confidence, resilience, and clarity about their future. Their stories were honest, moving, and full of hope.

Each participant completed a two-week work placement—and we’re proud to share that four of those placements were hosted by Pledge organisations. Huge thanks to:

  • The Customs House
  • HTG
  • HQ Fabrications
  • Key to Life

These businesses provided more than just a placement—they offered mentorship, skill-building, and a sense of purpose. The results were clear: young people gained valuable experience, grew in confidence, and left with a stronger sense of direction.

The group also delivered a fantastic community project, restoring 19 benches and planting 900 new plants at Monkton Dene Park. It was a brilliant example of teamwork, creativity, and giving back.

South Tyneside Mayor, Cllr Potts, attended the presentation to award the young people with their certificates, he shared the following in support of the Programme and those involved:

‘It was a privilege to be invited to celebrate the achievements of the young people who completed their King’s Trust TEAM programme qualification.

“I really enjoyed hearing first-hand about the positive impact the programme had on participants, and the strong friendships formed over the 12 weeks.

“The young people spoke passionately about their work experience, and it’s fantastic to see South Tyneside businesses getting involved—helping local residents gain valuable skills and build confidence.

“Well done to everyone involved. I wish all the young people every success in the future, and a special congratulations to Collette and Zoe for delivering a programme filled with meaningful engagement.”

The next TEAM cohort begins in September and are looking for more businesses to offer placements to young people aged 16–25. Whether you can host for a few days or a couple of weeks, your support can be life changing.

The programme is also on the lookout for another Community Project, please send on any ideas or nominations!

If you’d like to learn more or express interest, feel free to email  (Barbara.tennet1@southtyneside.gov.uk) who will put you in touch with the programme lead.
