Emmaus Celebrates Environmental Accreditation

Following a rigorous audit in September, Emmaus North East was scored at the Silver level of the national Investors in the Environment (iiiE) accreditation scheme.

Building on their commitment to sustainability and last year’s Bronze iiE accreditation, the team has worked hard to achieve more. Emmaus have developed an Environmental Management System and made improvements across their charity and social enterprise operations.

Ruth Parker, Chief Executive at Emmaus North East, said:

“I am delighted that the team at Emmaus North East has been recognised once again by Investors in the Environment for our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint and impact on the environment.

“Achieving the Silver award so soon after the Bronze accreditation demonstrates our mission to collectively make a positive impact on our planet alongside driving social impact.”

Investors in the Environment (iiE) is a national environmental accreditation scheme designed to help organisations save time and money, reduce their impact on the environment, and get recognition for their progress.

Driving forward positive change at all levels of Emmaus North East is their internal Green Team. All companions, volunteers, trustees and staff are also involved through their daily activities – from awareness raising and sustainability education, to reuse, recycling and upcycling within Emmaus’ social enterprise.

Emmaus’ charity has also received valuable support from the Going Green Together programme, led by the Voluntary Organisations’ Network North East (VONNE). The programme is delivered in partnership with the VONNE Climate Action Alliance and environmental experts Genee and SmartCarbon.
