Collaboration at the Heart of New Coffee Bar

Ferry View, the North East’s newest container-style coffee bar located at South Shields Ferry Terminal has teamed up with the Electric Bike Shed to offer a unique and sustainable coastal experience!

Whether you’re refuelling after a coastal walk or just soaking up the views, Ferry View offers a place to relax, indulge, and enjoy. Perched right by the water, Ferry View serves a range of coffee, refreshments, ice-cream and signature Dutch fries.

Thanks to a new collaboration with The Electric Bike Shed, visitors can now hire electric pedal-assist bikes directly from Ferry View. It’s the perfect way to explore the stunning North East coastline—from South Shields to Roker, or even all the way to Blyth.

The Electric Bike Shed sells a range of E-Bikes from its showroom in the nearby South Shields Business Works. The collaboration between the two South Tyneside Pledge signatories extends the Electric Bike Shed’s business offer to include bike rentals.

Speaking about the new venture, Vince Glassock said:

“This partnership is about creating a space where people can connect with the coast, enjoy great food, and experience the outdoors in a new way. People can easily hire a bike for a half day, full day or several days, and experience the coast in comfort and style.”

“Promoting sustainable transportation and healthier lifestyles in our local community is at the heart of what we do, and we are thrilled to be working with the team at Ferry View.”

Vince, also manages the Sports Recycler at South Shields Business Works. He and a team of volunteers take bikes of all conditions, repair them and sell them on at affordable prices.

Kenny Coates from Ferry View, also runs the nearby Green Fingers Garden Centre and is keen to establish other local collaborations:

“We are looking to team up with local gyms, personal trainers, yoga or Pilates instructors to host outdoor morning classes along the beautiful riverside outside our venue.

“We are also keen to welcome group coffee mornings, whether you are a cycling club, running group or mental health support community. We would love to be your meeting spot.

“Let’s create something special together and bring people together in a meaningful way. It is a great opportunity to collaborate while supporting our community.”

A multi-million-pound regeneration project is currently underway in South Shields town centre, with the relocation of South Tyneside College and South Shields Marine School.

Cllr Paul Dean, Lead Member for Voluntary Sector, Partnerships and Equalities at South Tyneside Council said:

“This is a remarkable new venture that really embodies the ethos of the South Tyneside Pledge.

“The Pledge was set up to encourage local organisations to localise their supply chains and support one another, so it is absolutely fantastic to see pledge signatories working together in such a way.

“I wish them every success with this new venture.”

As part of the public consultation relating to the town centre masterplan The Mill Dam area was seen as great for socialising and leisure but two thirds of people questioned thought it needed more places to eat and drink options. Ferry View adds to the food and drink offer along the Riverside/ Mill Dam area. Residents were also keen for the council to improve the waterfront area at Mill Dam and the cycle hub at the ferry landing does that.
