Climate Change Business Summit Panel

Climate Summit Panel Discussion

In May South Tyneside Council held a Climate Summit to help shape the boroughs journey to Net zero. Day two focused on bringing together the business community at South Shields Football club and seven of our Pledge organisations formed a panel discussion sharing knowledge, aspirations and lessons learned along their business journey.

The panel discussion was hosted by Pledge member Ian Farrar from business consultancy Far North. Panellists involved were from Pentagon Assurance, The Electric bike Shed, Turton’s Removals/Want Not CIC, STOC Good Food, Manosun and South Shields Football Club.

Jonnie Halling (from STOC Good Food) shared the most exciting thing about a sustainable South Tyneside:

‘For me, it’s the collaboration. Across businesses, community groups, and the council, we’re seeing a shared desire to build something better’

The discussion touched on the use of local suppliers and in turn the positive, social, economic and climate benefits this can have.

Barry cooper explained some of the measures his business has put in place in support of lowering employee carbon footprint:

‘We are proud to work with local organisations and businesses in South Tyneside to promote safer, greener practices. We’ve adapted our working hours to allow public transport or green travel arrangements around school times, we have purchased and refurbished our own premises in the borough to minimise the commute for our team.’

Huge thank you to all seven Pledge members for taking the time to share their valuable insight and experiences.
