A family business built on people over process is celebrating a year of growth, new jobs and national wins.
CPH Retrofit, based in South Shields’ One Trinity Green, is pioneering energy efficiency retrofit projects across the UK, working closely with clients to ensure residents remain informed, engaged, and supported throughout their residential heating system upgrades.
Founded as family-run business, Classic Plumbing and Heating Ltd, now trading as CPH Retrofit, has grown rapidly, with turnover rising around 120% per year since 2020. It now employs 12 people, all from South Tyneside, with family members – including father, mother, sons and nephews – forming the backbone of the company.

Managing director, Mark Crozier said:
“For us, CPH Retrofit is more than a company, we’re a team, fully committed to driving positive change in the retrofit and energy efficiency sector.
“Our people are our greatest strength. We take time to understand clients and every household we work with, so we meet the highest standards while making a genuine difference to residents’ comfort and wellbeing.”
CPH Retrofit delivers detailed assessments and reports on ageing heating systems, as well as recommending domestic energy-saving measures. Working with organisations like housing associations and councils, the firm assesses heating systems, delivering reports enabling landlords to ensure compliance with current standards. It then co-ordinates retrofit teams to ensure seamless installation of new boilers, insulation and other efficiency measures.

From briefings with elderly care home residents to explaining how retrofit works to tenants in their homes, CPH Retrofit puts its success down to experience, skill and putting people first, a philosophy Mark says is at the heart of everything they do.
Finance Director, Carolyn Crozier added:
“It’s a point of pride that 100% of our workforce comes from South Tyneside. We’re passionate about creating skilled jobs in our hometown and showing that South Shields can lead the way in green energy and heating innovation.”
Company clients include Dodds Renewable Energy and Saffron Housing Group, with ongoing or recently completed projects in Norfolk, Stevenage, Watford, Oxford and Selby. Projects that have seen CPH Retrofit survey and report on necessary retrofit upgrades and arrange work for clients. Each upgrade helps households cut energy costs and carbon, from as much as 20 per year, while improving comfort and safety.
The firm has made several key appointments as part of its continued expansion. Reece Mawson has developed from an apprentice to a fully qualified heating engineer and retrofit coordinator. Lesley Willis joined as lead administrator; Benjamin Lee successfully completed an admin apprenticeship; and new apprentice Daisy Mae Fairs recently joined the team. Lewis Crozier has also become part of the technical team, adding experience and expertise.
Sean Crozier, senior technical auditor, said:
“As we grow, our focus stays the same: delivering quality retrofit solutions that make a real difference to households and the environment.
“We’re proud to be a modern business with traditional values that are helping us make a national impact while staying true to our local roots.”
The company received help from South Tyneside Council, with signposting to several support initiatives and programmes.
Councillor Margaret Meling, Lead Member for Economic Growth and Transport at South Tyneside Council, said:
“To be creating jobs and forging an excellent reputation in a sector that is helping deliver positive environmental impact is fantastic and I congratulate CPH Retrofit for its ongoing success.”
