Businesses across South Tyneside are set to benefit from a new £25.9 million regional approach to business support, bringing together the North East Mayoral Strategic Authority and the region’s seven local authorities.
Business North East is being developed to provide a simpler, more joined-up route for businesses to access the advice and support they need to start, develop and grow. The programme will include support for entrepreneurship and start-ups, as well as productivity, innovation, accessing finance, exporting and helping ambitious businesses to scale and create jobs.
Shaped with South Tyneside businesses in mind
South Tyneside Council’s Business Investment Team has been actively involved in the design of the programme, helping to ensure the new approach is relevant and valuable to local businesses, as well as straightforward to access and navigate.
The new model will combine specialist support available across the North East with strong local relationships. Seven local authority “spokes”, including South Tyneside, will connect businesses in their communities with the most appropriate local and regional opportunities and support.
Business North East has also been developed following engagement with more than 300 businesses, which highlighted the need for a more joined-up approach and easier access to business support.
The programme will be delivered through five key areas: Inspire, Explore, Start, Succeed and Grow, supporting people and businesses at different stages of their journey, from developing an initial business idea through to established companies looking to innovate, increase productivity and access new markets.
The £25.9 million programme is due to run from January 2027 to March 2029, with the official launch of Business North East planned for January 2027.
