South Shields-based NECIT, which provides fully coordinated inspection services for international engineering projects, is celebrating the expansion of its operations at home and abroad.
The global firm has moved into One Trinity Green, South Tyneside Council’s business centre in South Shields, to accommodate its expanding workforce following strong year-on-year growth and the opening of its Houston, Texas office, in February.
NECIT’s office move follows a record turnover of £1.67m in 2019 fuelled by new contract wins with some of the world’s biggest international project contractors and market leading companies in sectors such as oil & gas. The firm’s growth is set to continue with a forecasted £2.7m turnover in 2020.
With a network of 2,500 highly qualified inspectors, operating in more than 60 countries, NECIT delivers inspection, audit and expediting services, for some of the world’s most ambitious engineering projects, across sectors including oil & gas, renewables and power generation.
The firm is currently recruiting seven new members of staff to expand its coordination and administration teams, taking their UK headcount up to sixteen. Its newly established Houston office will also build a team of five to support expansion into the US market.

The current COVID-19 situation is a challenge but we’re proud to continue providing the expert key workers that are required to keep our vital energy and engineering industries operational. We feel optimistic about the future and our fantastic team are on track for another record-breaking year.”
NECIT is set to join One Trinity Green’s emerging ‘offshore hub’ which through collaborative working aims to strengthen the borough’s position in the sector and business’ ability to maximise international opportunities. In May, Equinor and SSE Renewables announced that they are to build a new Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Base at the Port of Tyne for Dogger Bank, the world’s largest offshore wind farm.
