The Youth Guarantee is the government’s commitment to ensuring that every young person aged 16–24 has access to the support and opportunities they need to move into work, training or education.

For employers, the Youth Guarantee offers a practical way to:

  • Access fully funding apprenticeshiptraining
  • Benefit from financial incentives including fully funded work placements and the youth Jobs Grant, worth up to £3,000.
  • Build a pipeline of motivated young talent, shaped to your business needs

All while helping to address skills gaps and invest in South Tyneside’s future workforce.

About the event

This employer‑focused event will:

  • Explain the financial incentives available to businesses and how to access them;
  • Explore how positive work experience placements can naturally lead to future hires, reducing recruitment risk while supporting young people’s progression into sustained employment.
  • Share examples of local employers who are already supporting young people through work experience, apprenticeships, and jobs.

You’ll also have the opportunity to:

  • Network with other South Tyneside employers
  • Take part in facilitated discussions to share challenges, ideas and best practice
  • Feedback on any support your business needs now and in the future, and speak to staff from DWP and South Tyneside Council

Building a Stronger South Tyneside

This event is the first in a new series of topical sessions designed to bring local employers together to connect, collaborate and share success stories that support economic growth in South Tyneside.

We are grateful to Hebburn Football Club for hosting this first event, and we look forward to hearing about the Club’s work in the community and its partnerships with local businesses to help young residents access opportunities.

Why this matters

Economic inactivity remains one of South Tyneside’s most significant challenges, with youth unemployment currently above 9%. Tackling this cannot be achieved by any single organisation alone. By working together, the Council and local employers can ensure businesses are making the most of available support while creating real opportunities for young people.

By offering high‑quality work experience and early opportunities, employers can help young people begin their career journey — while also developing the talent and skills their businesses need for the future.

Join us to be part of the solution – and to strengthen South Tyneside’s future workforce.

Please book via Event Brite: Building a Stronger South Tyneside – The Youth Guarantee Tickets, Friday, June 5  •  9:30 AM – 11:30 AM | Eventbrite
