Established in 1981, the Great North Run is now the world’s biggest Half Marathon. 60,000 fun runners take part, and 250,000 spectators line the course from Newcastle to South Shields. The race has raised hundreds of millions of pounds for charities, helping thousands of amazing causes globally.
With participants travelling from every postcode in the UK to take part, it delivers £35m of positive economic impact to the North East. 55% of UK population are “familiar” with the event, with almost 1.3m having taken part since 1981.
In this panel discussion we hear from Nicky Homes, Commercial Director and Gary Wright, Chief Operating Officer at the Great Run Company. What makes this mass event so special, and how can the business community in South Tyneside collectively work together to maximise the benefit of the thousands of visitors the event brings to the borough?
