Two South Tyneside Pledge organisations have recently donated laptops to the Salvation Army in order to help survivors of modern slavery and human trafficking in their journey towards recovery and integration into society.
In an increasingly digital world, access to technology is critical. ITC Service and Northern Rights made the donations to provide those in need with essential tools to access educational resources, job opportunities, and support networks.
Speaking about the donation Jamie Blanchflower, Workshop Manager at ITC Service said:
“Technology is a tool that’s becoming more essential. We’re hoping to put it in the right hands, and we trust The Salvation Army to do just that. Our donation to The Salvation Army reinforces our commitment to making a difference in the community and in the lives of those most vulnerable”.
The Salvation Army has been at the forefront of assisting human trafficking and modern-day slavery victims, offering shelter, counselling, and educational support. With the addition of these laptops, the organisation can further enhance its efforts to provide survivors with the tools they need to rebuild their lives.
ITC service is one of the UK’s top managed service providers, based on Monkton Business Park in South Tyneside. They were joined in their donation by Northern Rights, a social enterprise also based in South Tyneside that works with disadvantaged people, from a diverse range of backgrounds, who have struggled to find sustainable employment.
Both organisations have signed the South Tyneside Pledge, an initiative aimed at supporting South Tyneside to thrive. This donation demonstrates a clear link between the private and voluntary sector. Business donations to local charities and community groups are encouraged as part of the Pledge. In addition to digital devices, surplus furniture and equipment, free or discounted goods and services are always welcomed.
