South Tyneside’s economy is shaped by its riverside location.  Based on our heritage, natural assets, transport links and skilled workforce, we have real local strengths in advanced manufacturing, energy and offshore, the low carbon economy, hospitality and tourism (all industries where our proportion of employment is higher than the national average).

Dogger Bank will be the world’s largest wind farm located 130km off the North East Coast and will be capable of powering 6million British homes.  Its Operations and Maintenance base will be located at the Port of Tyne in South Shields and will create 200 jobs and create significant supply chain opportunities.

The International Advanced Manufacturing Park (IAMP) will be a nationally important and internationally respected location for advanced manufacturing and European-scale supply chain industries.

A joint venture between Sunderland City Council and South Tyneside Councils and their Development Partner HBD, IAMP will provide over 390,000m2 of industrial floorspace alongside new infrastructure and services, spread across 150 hectares. IAMP is already home to SNOP, Faltec and soon to be Envision-AESC who are investing £450million to build its second Gigafactory on IAMP.
