Emmaus North East is a charity based in South Tyneside that offers permanent homes to homeless people. In addition to providing accommodation, everyone has a person centred support plan that includes progression in regard to mental wellbeing, employability, self esteem and confidence with the ultimate aim of supporting people into their own tenancy’s, work and reconnecting them with their families. All of this is done using a trauma informed approach.
In addition to the above, Emmaus North East has a range of social enterprises including a woodwork workshop, retail stores, a house clearance service and the only free community laundry in the country. These exist to offer volunteering opportunities to the community and formerly homeless people.
Our acts of solidarity help people facing multiple disadvantage and is part of our mission to exclude social isolation from communities.
We have been awarded a North East Charity Award and are Investors in the Environment Silver accredited.
