HTG (Howell Technology Group)

South Tyneside Council Leader Councillor Tracey Dixon and Deputy Leader Councillor Joan Atkinson have presented a certificate of commitment to the Howell Technology Group who have signed up to the South Tyneside Pledge.

With an esteemed background working with emerging and leading-edge technologies, Kevin Howell founded Howell Computing in 2005. Rebranding as Howell Technology Group in 2015, the ever-expanding team of industry experts and high-potential graduates and apprentices, now work with local, national and international customers to apply the latest innovative cloud technology to deliver secure and modern workplaces which seamlessly enable remote working.

The South Tyneside HQ is home to the region’s first “Microsoft Centre of Excellence” and the local firm has worked with global corporates from Goldman Sachs to Serios, while remaining focused on South Tyneside by working with local schools, recruiting locally and aiming to grow staff to 150, and turnover to £30m over the next 5 years. Howell Technology Group signed up to the South Tyneside Pledge in order to continue to grow, recruit and procure in the borough.

George Galloway, Sales and Marketing Director at Howell Technology Group said:

“We are proud of our South Tyneside roots and are committed to remaining in the region long-term. We want to be an active member of the business community and support other neighbouring businesses to thrive.

“We are already providing a local pathway for careers that historically may have required a move towards a different region in order to progress. Creating a local Microsoft Centre of Excellence is a sure-fire way of keeping talent in the North East and solidifying the region’s emergence as a tech hub.

“We have also just purchased a two-storey, 5,000 sq ft premises on Monkton Business Park in Hebburn to house our growing team and have ambitious recruitment plans. We pride ourselves on being active members of the local community ensuring we give back both financially and via volunteering. The North East has a legacy boasting unrivalled community bonds. What better way to demonstrate our pride in the region and our commitment to local people than signing the pledge?”

Cllr Tracey Dixon, Leader of South Tyneside Council, said:

“It’s fantastic to see this local business go from strength to strength, gaining global clients but remaining true to its South Tyneside roots.

“HTG’s commitment to the borough, to enabling the tech community to develop and grow and to fostering and recruiting home-grown talent is everything the Pledge stands for.

“HTG is one of the more than 130 organisations to sign up so far, businesses which are doing all they can to give something back and create a prosperous, thriving borough.”

Launched in January 2022, the South Tyneside Pledge aims to boost local economic activity, reduce health inequalities, cut carbon emissions and enhance civic pride for the benefit of the whole Borough. The pledge sets out nine commitments, which are all about keeping things local, through a short report every six months.

Organisations, public and private, big businesses and small firms, can sign up at any time and become part of the Pledge South Tyneside network at www.southtyneside.gov.uk
